JT Crowley interviews Fish Nealman, author of The Flat Tire: A Redeclaration of Independence—a powerful story of unity, humanity, and transformative journeys.
Fish Nealman is an award-winning literary fiction author renowned for his evocative storytelling and meticulously crafted narratives.
This outstanding award-winning book sheds light on the all-embracing threads of humanity that commonly unite us all, whether we envisage that in our daily lives or not. The story is beautifully woven together by four striking and impressive characters whose backgrounds are very much at odds with each other yet have a common thread when it comes to humanity and mankind. Cardinal LaMacchia (Otto) has his own strong views on how the Catholic church should interact with society. Rabbi Rahabi (Ezekiel- alias Eli in the book) comes from a very strong Jewish background, but his journey from personal greed to impassion for those around him especially young people, is striking. Dr Herzog (Linda) is a highly educated woman whose approach to the scriptures of the bible and how those teachings should be illuminated and presented to the public tangibly suggests her approach to humanity is more on the agnostic side. Iman Martin, his upbringing is in stark contrast to the others; the foster care system that he endured as a child really shaped his viewpoints as to how humans should face themselves and tackle social issues. These are the four dominant protagonists that carry this story forward in its entirety. As you can see, they come from different backgrounds, beliefs but they share a common fundamental connection around humanity and that of a flat tire. What these four set out to achieve here is to grapple with their personal challenges and spiritual trials and come up with a purposeful mission to draft a Redeclaration of Independence for the United States so to ensure equality is key to the way forward for all.
The book has other characters that support this transformative journey around equality and humanity, even a waitress (Camila) plays a significant role.
The first part of the book gives you the backdrop to the big four players, the second part you start to see how they come together, and the third part well, read the book and find out for yourself!
